Today, you will write.

Today you will write without fear. You will go for the jugular and leave it all on the page. No one ever needs to read what you write, so you are free to be vulnerable. Free to be the real you. What scares you most? What is your deepest, darkest secret? What do you long for, but are afraid to admit? Write it all down. Capture your visceral emotions on the page. Write about the pain and heartache from your first breakup, or the exhilaration of your first kiss. Write about the time your anxiety got the best of you, or when you triumphed despite the odds. Use all your senses. What can you see, hear, taste, touch, and smell? Use these descriptions to bring your imagery to life. Do you have regrets? A time in your life you’d like to revisit? Now is the time to get it all out on the page.
Fear keeps you from writing your best. Fear keeps you small. If you’re not careful, the “what ifs” of fear will drown your creativity. “What if my relatives read this? What if I write something cringe? What if this is too dark to share?” Let the fear go. Instead, think about what kind of writing changed you. Writing that moved you to tears or made you laugh out loud. I doubt the author played it safe. Rather, I’d wager this writing struck a chord with you because it was vulnerable. It was something you could relate to or something that challenged you and brought you outside your comfort zone. That’s the kind of writing you’re striving for. Writing that is free of fear. So pick up your pen and write the most brutal honest truths that you’ve kept hidden deep within you.

An Interview with Christi Playford
If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
It’s okay if your first few writing projects aren’t good. That’s all part of the process. You’re learning and growing, and with time and perseverance you’ll get better. Remember, writing is not about perfection. It’s about exploration and growth. So have fun, make mistakes, and learn by doing.
What advice would you give to authors working on building their author platform?
Just start. You’re allowed to change your vibe over time. Experiment with different types of content that resonates with you and have fun! Follow other writers and readers in the community and engage with their content. If you want to get serious, create an ideal reader profile. Focus on content that connects with your ideal reader, but don’t forget to promote yourself and your writing as well. Remember, people want what you’re creating.
What is one of the best ways you’ve invested in yourself as a writer?
I’ve invested in my writing career by paying to be a part of writing groups, purchasing online writing courses, and hiring an editor. I can confidently say that without those three things I wouldn’t be where I am today.

This was such a good read! I had to take a day off from reading because my body just wasn’t up for it. But I wrote some bullet point notes for a doctor appt later this week. And that is enough. It’s a fear, too. That’s why I write notes for my doctor appts! ❤️
Great prompts! 🩵
